A cruise on 'Tom Jones' is normally for a period of 6 days (Saturday to Friday)

The weekly charter rate for 'Tom Jones' is £750.00 (for 2 people)

Your cabin will be available at 14.00 hrs on the Saturday of your cruise and will need to be vacated by 10.30 on the Friday that your cruise ends

The cruise will include one night in Paris, beneath the Eiffel Tower, if your cruise is due to start or finish in Paris, if you want more than one night we would ask that you pay the berthing costs of 50 euros per night

The cruise is best suited to couples due to the cabin space available

We are taking bookings from May to September 2008

Here are some of the comments made by previous guests ( thank you for letting us use them)

Voyage of discovery, really great

Thank you ever so much for our holiday, we enjoyed it so much

If we do not have a booking for a particular week it may be possible to charter the boat on a daily basis for a trip around Paris by boat - in which case we would be able to take ten passengers or perhaps use the boat as your B&B base for a few days in Paris - email us with your enquiry. This will depend on where we are on the river system at the time.

Contact us for our daily rates

The next move for the boat is from the River Seine to the Dutch waterways, this will probably be early in 2009 - if you wish to crew-out on this trip, contact me for the rates. You will get the chance to practice your navigational skills under the guidance of an RYA shorebased Instructor

Your hosts, Doug and Anita are travelling the 'Big Rivers' of Europe and you will be our guests

Your hosts - Doug and Anita

For 2008 the cruising area is the Rivers Seine and L'oise.

Future years will see us cruising the Dutch waterways, the Rivers Rhine, Moselle and Danube. We intend to see as much of Europe as we can from the most superb inland waterway network

The cost of the cruise does not include your travel costs to or from the boat. We will endeavour to be close to a railway station to take advantage of the superb rail transport system in France.

The cruise will include one night in Paris, berthed at the foot of the Eiffel Tower, if your cruise starts or finishes in Paris.

If you wish to have more than one night in Paris we ask you to pay the berthing fees of 50 euros per night.

Due to the facilities available on the River Seine we have found that we would normally leave at about 10.00 am each day, after a leisurely breakfast, and travel for a few hours to our next destination. The exact travelling time will depend on where we are heading to.

We would expect to be moored somewhere pleasant each afternoon to enable you to sample the delights of a local restaurant and visit the local environment.

We appreciate that this holiday is not for everyone. A certain pioneering spirit is required to get the best out of what is still an adventure. We may have to conserve hot water. Using toilet and shower facilities ashore is often best. Having said all that - it is without doubt the best way to enjoy the river and live the life of the river people.

Your cruise is based on a 'bed and breakfast' basis. Breakfast will be continental - coffee/ tea, fruit juice, cereal and your choice of French morning delights - croisant, pain au chocolat or pain au raisin. Doug is tasked with the job each morning of finding the nearest patisserie !

Viv and George enjoying a cuppa with Anita in Paris

Your midday and evening meals will be your own responsibility. You can use local restaurants or use the facilities of the galley on the boat.

We have found that the best way to deal with lunch is for your hosts and you to buy, the previous day, enough food for a light snack to be consumed en route or when we moor for the day.

Your cabin is at the rear of the boat and is self-contained - the skipper will need access to the engine room, the entrance is situated outside your cabin

There are 4 double electric sockets (230v) in the cabin. These will power ordinary domestic appliances such as hair dryers etc.

The power to these sockets is dependant upon (1) the availability of shore power (2) the onboard generator being switched on.

Please be aware that the power source cannot power everything on board at the same time. There may be a need to switch something off in order to power another appliance !

The 'heads' (bathroom) is situated outside your cabin in the self-contained area at the rear of the boat.

There is a shower cubicle and shower with thermostatic water supply, a small hand basin and sea toilet.

Instruction on the use of the sea toilet will be provided when you start your cruise.

Normal toiletries will be provided.

Not everybody is happy with sea toilets and we have found that our guests are quite happy to use facilities on shore whenever they are available.

Your cabin is furnished in varnished teak and has a king-size bed, occasional seating, hanging wardrobes and cupboard storage space.

Natural light is provided by large windows on each side of the cabin and a ceiling hatch.

Electric lighting is provided, this is controlled by switches at the door and the bed.

There are reading lights on each side of the bed. The lighting is powered by the boat's 24v system and is available at all times.

Please don't bring a 'solid' suitcase with you as storage space is at a premium - one that folds down would be best

Your cabin will have a small hair dryer available.

If you bring other electrical items with you please ensure that they are of low wattage

Your cabin has a radio/cd player - it is powered by the 230v electrics when available and by battery when not

There is a 230v / 12v television on the boat - hopefully you won't feel the need to watch it !

Fresh sheets and duvet cover will be provided for your week's cruise

The bed has a duvet to keep you warm and further blankets are available if required

This is not a 'maid service' cruise and you will be left to look after your own cabin. Please leave it in the state that you found it.

2 fresh bath towels, 2 large towels and 2 hand towels are available for your week's cruise

Doug and Anita are 'ordinary' people and consider themselves to be reasonably good communicators and able to get along with just about anyone.

We know that this will be your holiday and you will need your own time and space.

We won't be offended if you want to be on your own and not have any involvement with the running of the boat but equally we would be pleased if you want to assist on the boat.

Mike enjoyed helming the boat and is demonstrating his VHF radio skills !

All bookings will need to be paid for in advance -

see our booking page

We travel to a new location each season.

The cruising area is researched in depth but it is still an adventure for us as we haven't been there before and sampled the delights.

Those guests joining us at the beginning of the season have the added benefit of finding new places for the first time.

Those joining later in the season then have the advantage of the experiences gained.

We have found that the River Seine has not been commercialised - this is part of its charm - however, there are times when facilities may not be the best. We have had to moor outside locks in the past.

This just makes you appreciate the better facilities when we find them.

We would like to point out to you, our potential guest, that being on a boat on a major Waterway allows you to see the area from a completely different perspective with the time to take it all in.

You do need to be flexible as the waterway is the home of commercial and private vessels alike. We all need to stop somewhere and there are limited places to do this.

We may find that our preferred stopping point is not available to us and need to look somewhere else ! We may find that we have to lie alongside another vessel with the need to cross vessels to get ashore. We may need to use the boat's tender to get ashore. This is one of the major appeals of a cruising holiday of this nature. If it's not for you we understand and wish you well in your chosen holiday.
