'Tom Jones'
is spending the winter in Honfleur, at the mouth of the
River Seine, on the opposite side of the estuary to Le Havre.
In 2008 we will be travelling from Honfleur to Rouen, Rouen
to Vernon, Vernon to Paris, Paris to Montereau and then
from Montereau to Paris and Paris toVernon. At the end of
the season we will be travelling back to Honfleur via Rouen.
All bookable
weeks for 2008 will either start or finish in Paris. Those
weeks finishing in Paris will start at either Vernon or
Montereau and will be within easy reach of a main-line station
serving Paris. The weeks starting in Paris will find the
boat berthed near to the Eiffel Tower.
We will be offering
a couple of weeks berthed in Paris for those people who
wish to use the boat as a bed and breakfast location in
the centre of the city, check below to see which weeks they
will be. If you wish to book one week travelling on the
boat and one of the weeks berthed in Paris,
we will give a discounted price of £550 each week.
All
other weeks on the boat are priced at £595 per week
Remember, this
price is for your exclusive use of the boat, either one
or two people - it must be the best value around
We will email
you with full details of the boat's location and provide
you with our phone number should you need to make contact
Below are the
weeks that we will be cruising the River Seine, pick the
date and start point that best suits you. When you email
us to book please refer to the week date and destination
shown in bold type.
Week
Saturday 31st May to Friday 6th June, 2008 - Rouen to Vernon
BOOKED
Saturday 31st
May - arrive at the boat from 14.00hrs at Rouen
Sunday 1st June
- the boat will remain in Rouen for sightseeing
Monday 2nd June
- the boat will remain in Rouen for sightseeing
Tuesday 3rd June
- the boat will depart Rouen and go through the first lock
on the River at Amfreville, a journey of approximately 40k.
On Tuesday evening we will moor just outside the lock near
to the village of Poses. We can walk accross the river to
Poses or take the rib and outboard. Apart from the village
and a restaurant / bar there isn't an awful lot here but
it is a place well worth stopping at. We will be living
as true bargees as there are no electricity hook-up points
here, we will be completely self sufficient. It is probable
that barges will moor here for the evening.
Wednesday 4th
June - we will travel from Amfreville to Les Andelys, a
journey of approximately 30k. Again, we are living as the
bargees do. There is a small marina at Les Andelys but we
are too big to get in. We will be mooring at one of the
pontoons used by the large hotel ships when at Les Andelys.
We will the time to visit Les Andelys and there are sufficient
restaurants to meet needs.
Thursday 5th June
- this will see us at our destination for this cruise, Vernon,
approximately 25k. This is one of the many 'homes' of ther
impressionists but more importantly we are a short distance
from Giverny, the home of Monet. This is a 'must' visit
together with the American museum, home of the American
artists who settled in the area. Vernon is a beautiful city
with many sights. We will be moored at the local yacht club
on the other side of the river to Vernon. We will be looking
straight at the water mill that has featured in Monet's
paintings. We will have an electric hook up here.
Friday 6th June
- the boat will remain at Vernon and this will be your departure
point by 12.00 noon. The train station is a short taxi ride
away on the other side of Vernon.
Week
Saturday 7th June to Friday 13th June, 2008 - Vernon to
Paris BOOKED
Saturday 7th June
- arrive at the boat from 14.00hrs at Vernon
Sunday 8th June
- the boat will be at Vernon to enable you to visit the
area. This is one of the many 'homes' of ther impressionists
but more importantly we are a short distance from Giverny,
the home of Monet. This is a 'must' visit together with
the American museum, home of the American artists who settled
in the area. Vernon is a beautiful city with many sights.
We will be moored at the local yacht club on the other side
of the river to Vernon. We will be looking straight at the
water mill that has featured in Monet's paintings. We will
have an electric hook up here.
Monday 9th June
- We will leave Vernon and travel to Mantes La Jolie / Limay,
approximately 40k. At this stage we will be 110k from the
centre of Paris. We will be moored either alongside the
river bank or to a small pontoon. The pontoon has water
but no electricity so we will be self sufficient.
Tuesday 10th June
- From Mantes La Jolie we will travel to Conflans Saint
Honorine, apprximately 40k, this is the bargees capital.
There are barges parked as far as the eye can see, at places
5 or 6 deep. Many of these barges are now laid up since
the decline in barge work, with the families still living
on them. One of the barges is converted to a chapel. We
will probably only stay in Conflans for a few hours for
a walk around and then travel along the River L'oise for
10k and moor up for the night at Sergy. If for any reason
we don't stop at Conflans today - we will stop tomorrow.
Sergy is a small marina set on the outskirts of a picturesque
village. There are bars and restaurants surrounding the
marina, one of them being a renowned fish restaurant. We
will moor to the pontoon on the river just outside the marina.
We will have access to water and electricity. There are
showers and toilets in the marina complex.
Wednesday 11th
June - We will travel from Sergy to Conflans and then on
to Rueil Malmaison, approximately 25k. We will be moored
to a pontoon and there is no electricity or water so self
sufficiency is the name of the game again. We are very close
to a new complex of shops, restaurants and apartments. There
is an office here that provides toilets and shower for boats
moored there but we have found the place to be closed more
often than open when we've been there! There is a, free,
tourist train that you can take that will whisk you through
the old town and into the local park with a chateau to visit.
You can get off at various locations and catch the next
train back. On the other side of the river is a famous restaurant
that was frequented by impressionist painters.
Thursday 12th
June - We now make the 40k journey from Rueil to Paris,
watching the changes on the river as we enter this conurbation.
The closer you get to Paris the more house boats you will
see lining the river. We then get that magical view of the
Eiffel Tower in the distance. We will be mooring near to
the Eiffel Tower but before we moor we will go past and
have that magical tour of the River by boat. We will see
all of the famous sights and turn at Notre Dame and make
our way back to our mooring. We will no doubt be in the
midst of all the toursit boats, the Bateau Mouche. We will
have access to water and elecricity and there is a shower
and toilet block on the pontoon. We are a short walk from
the Eiffel Tower and the other famous sights of Paris.
Friday 13th June
- the boat will remain at Paris and this will be your departure
point by 12.00 noon. We are obviously very close to the
Metro with transfers to the airports.
Week
Saturday 14th June to Friday 20th June, 2008 - Paris to
Montereau
BOOKED
Saturday 14th
June - arrive at the boat from 14.00hrs at Paris
Sunday 15th June
- the boat will remain in Paris for sightseeing
Monday 16th June
- we will leave Paris and in doing so we will take the full
tour of the River to allow you to see the sights by boat.
Having done the tour we head off to Melun, some 65k away.
This is the longest day travelling on the boat, purely because
there are not many suitable places to moor. Melun is a picturesque
town and we will be mooring alongside a new quay. There
are no facilities as such for boaters, toilets, showers,
water etc so we will be self sufficient. The twon itself
makes up for this as there are shops, restaurants and places
to visit.
Tuesday 17th June
- we will travel from melun to Fontainebleau, approximately
20k. We will be mooring at a small marina that has electricity,
water, showers and toilets. There is a good little restaurant
a short walk away. The reason for stopping here is to enable
you to vist the nearby Chateau. This is enourmous and well
worth a visit. It is a taxi ride away and we'll be able
to book your taxi at the marina office.
Wednesday 18th
June - this sees us travelling from Fontainebleau to Saint
Mammes, it is only a short distance approximately 10k. We
will moor at a small marina that gives us access to water
and electricity and there is a toilet and shower block.
Saint Mammes is at the confluence with the Rivers Seine
and Loing and was for many years the centre of the barging
world. With the decline of bargeing the City Fathers provided
the marina for leasure boaters. Saint Mammes is a small
place with most of the village situated on the river bank.
You will have the opportunity to take the pleasant walk
along the River Loing to Moret sur-Loing a picturesque walled
town with water mills on the river.
Thursday 19th
June - we travel from Saint Mammes to Montereau, approximately
15k. Montereau is also on the confluence of two rivers,
the Seine and the Yonne. We will be mooring on the Yonne
and we will will be a short walk from Montereau, another
picturesque town well worthy of a visit. The statue of Napolean
on horesback looks towards the church of Notre Dame.
Friday 20th June
- the boat will remain at Montereau and this will be your
departure point by 12.00 noon. The train station taking
you back to Paris is only a short taxi ride away.
